Very nice pretty salubrious recipe. I used all the same ingredients only changed upwardly the prep guild to make information technology easier for me to put together on a decorated day. I diced upwardly the onion, carrots (used a lot more than carrots) celery. Cooked the beef, added the onions, carrots and celery and cooked that a chip, added the broth & bouillon cube, lycopersicon esculentum sauce - brought to a depression simmer - added the potatoes and turned the heat down to low and let simmer - just before serving I added the cabbage and let simmer while the rolls baked. No added common salt was needed. Perfectly easy weeknight meal. This tin can all be done using the crockpot - start of the stove and finish the simmer and cabbage in the crockpot.

Exactly what I was looking for! It tasted exactly like what I grew up on at my Grandma's house. Splendid season - definitely a condolement food for me!

I admittedly loved this recipe simply I did make some changes. Instead of the tomato plant sauce I used 1 14.5 oz can of diced tomatoes with the juice and a pocket-sized can of tomato paste. I too added a can of drained corn and a gutted and diced jalapeno to add a lilliputian boot. I added these forth with the rest of the veggies and permit it simmer for 70 minutes. Both myself and my partner absolutely loved it!
12/13/2013
Fantabulous stew! I brand this in the crock pot. Just brown the meat, put it in the crock pot and cover with the rest of the ingredients. Cook on depression all mean solar day and it comes out great! Another great excuse to swallow cabbage. Cracking every bit-is, simply I've likewise added corn, peas, cauliflower, etc.

My married woman can make a great stew and i have been trying to make a recipe to beat hers and have keen flavour with tender meat and done vegies that didnt taste similar some chemic, well this recipe beat hers by far. I didn't modify annihilation, the beef was real tender, the broth had great flavor and the cabbage made this stew even better. You take to try this recipe, y'all volition make this again. My wife really liked this stew and admitted it that information technology taste better then hers.
12/28/2012
I fabricated this recipe in my pressure cooker and it cut the cooking time down to most 35 minutes. It turned out perfectly. I browned the beef in a little oil for almost 12 minutes, pressure cooked the meat, broth, onion, and spices for fifteen minutes, added the veggies and pressure level cooked for seven minutes, added the tomato plant sauce and pressure level cooked for one infinitesimal. Fabled!
11/27/2012
Prepared this recipe exactly like the original with no changes. It turned out perfect! Very tasty the get-go twenty-four hours and the leftovers were even better the second day. You will not be disappointed. Bully recipe, and I'll definitely brand this i again.
01/19/2013
ok, is information technology fair to give this 5 stars when I didn't follow the recipe? I just had to considering this soup is so delicious and soooooo good for us!!! I used ane pound of beefiness, 15 oz tomato sauce, 6 cups of beef broth, iv large handful of coleslaw mix (Sam's social club), two large carrots, one onion, i c each of frozen green beans and corn and salt and pepper...and 1 tsp of sugar to remainder the acidity of the tomatoes. OH WOW! simple, succulent, hearty, healthy goodness in a bowl. Exactly what I want my family to eat to nourish themselves!!! the twenty minutes of simmering are virtually upward and the troops are starting to circle!!! I've taste-tested a footling bowl already and I can hardly wait for more!!!!
07/21/2013
Very skilful and easy to prepare. I followed the recipe to the T, just added cayenne pepper at the end for actress kicking.
01/29/2015
How good can beef and cabbage taste? Honestly? Well let me tell ya, this recipe made a believer out of me! Evidently I was skeptical only I followed the directions to a tee and had some faith-it's rated 5 stars after all. Now I know why. Won't make whatever changes when I make this again. Swell recipe. Cheers Paul
10/27/2014
Fantastic flavor. The only changes I made was I did not mensurate the cabbage I just added the whole caput, why measure if yous love cabbage. I also added roasted garlic. I always accept some in my fridge and information technology makes a corking addition to any dish.
04/13/2013
something then easy my boyfriend went crazy over... every bite literally said wow... i don't get information technology... information technology was like the easiest recipe... time consuming but like shooting fish in a barrel and he was totally having his moment with this meal.. and i spend so much fourth dimension on exotic recipes... geez i'll make this one again. I left out the lycopersicon esculentum sauce because i didnt wanna keep digging in the cupboard

As someone who doesn't consume plenty vegetables, I was looking for a recipe to get more than veggies into my diet. This really did the trick! My young man loves it. We follow the directions generally every bit listed (sometimes leaving out the onion, because I don't similar them), and it always turns out nifty. The cabbage is the star of the dish. Nosotros love to add TONS of cabbage to this recipe, especially because the cabbage shrinks as information technology cooks. I took abroad one star though considering the tomato sauce flavor is very overpowering. Although my boyfriend loves the lycopersicon esculentum flavor, I do not, and we accept started using half a can to reduce the strong tomato season a bit. It'south still delicious, just with the full can of lycopersicon esculentum sauce, all I could sense of taste was love apple, and I actually wanted to savour the other flavors in the dish. Half a tin can works for united states of america. It keeps the tomato plant season in the dish without overpowering the other flavors at piece of work. Overall, bully recipe! Really enjoyed information technology, and it is now one of our "regulars"! :)
12/04/2013
Very disappointed with this recipe. Our former standby swiss steak in the crockpot is much better than this. I won't exist making this over again.
01/21/2014
I included a ane/2c of marsala vino and a few pinches of herbs and information technology came out with a overnice flavor and very rich sauce. Very good!
01/17/2013
Elementary and hearty recipe. We initially made the soup exactly equally instructed simply ended upward doubling up on the broth halfway through. We will definitely make once again. Thanks so much for the recipe!
06/04/2016
I made it exactly except used napa cabbage and maybe an extra bullion cube...it was GREAT!!!! I am looking at the critical review by Peggy and shakin my caput!!! Never make it again??? Peradventure you didn't make information technology right the offset fourth dimension....geeeez....Thank you for the recipe....PEACE
10/28/2014
I've never made a successful stew before simply this 1 turned out great.... The key was to melt the stew meat long and tedious to get information technology tender and to throw your vegetables in during the final cooking hour which for me was at the one and half hr mark. I did make some adjustments merely cypher extreme. I used ii and half pounds stew meat. I used meat tenderizer on the stew while I browned the meat. I added 8 red potatoes since they were already on manus. Added corn. 4 cups of beefiness unsalted broth. A browning agent. And also added a half cup of sugar to eliminate the acids from the red sauce since I'1000 not a fan of mixing crimson and brown gravys in the starting time identify. My picture of finished production is in the gallery...
01/x/2015
I have made beef stew and it is good ,simply this recipe was even improve, more nutritious, and lower in calories. I put everything into a force per unit area cooker and cooked it about an hour. Information technology was delicious.
03/02/2014
I was afraid information technology'd be banal and so added a good for you tablespoon of diced garlic (from a jar) during the meat/onion stage. Likewise added a dash of cayenne pepper for a little kick. I needed two-iii extra cups of broth later on adding the vegetables to requite it a nice consistency. We like our stew thick and hearty just need plenty liquid to dip slices of crusty baguette. Instead of shredding the cabbage, I sliced it thin about 1/four inch thick and kept the pieces 1 inch long. Cracking recipe! Other additions/swaps that might not make a difference but you lot might like, added a tin can of corn, used three oz of love apple paste, diced tomato's instead of sauce. Nosotros didn't take celery. I like it only didn't miss it. I added 2 tablespoons of flour mixed with i/two cup water at the very terminate to give it the stew consistency I'k used to my Grandma making.
eleven/11/2013
Nifty start Recipe I used Beef stock for added flavor and put more veggies in and so it chosen for. It did have longer for the veggies to tenderize but I did let time for that. Information technology had great flavor and the extra cooking time just tenderized the meat more than.
10/28/2014
Showtime off, I followed the recipe exactly except for draining the grease because at that place seemed to be very little. It was simply by and large moisture from the meat. Now I will tell y'all that I was very doubtful of this recipe most of the time while information technology was cooking, through all phases. I'grand a sampler and I kept dipping my spoon in and thinking that I was going to take to help it a lot to make it edible. I at present have the tomato sauce in and however it's only blah. Still, afterwards about 20 minutes, the flavour came together and it was fantastic. Nevertheless, it did require a fair bit of table salt. I'thousand very happy that I didn't drain the juice at the beginning considering the gravy ratio was just perfect as information technology was and I call back it may have been too dry without information technology. Cheers for a peachy recipe!
01/20/2019
I used purple cabbage looked awful just tasted bully. I had to use up the leftover purple cabbage from a different recipe. Lol!
01/12/2013
This is so good! Especially the side by side day afterward flavors meld. Yummy!
10/29/2014
Only change I made was to cook in my pressure cooker. Full recipe took about one hour get-go to cease. Really impressed the grand aunt and was and so easy!!
01/05/2014
Excellent stew! I coated the meat with flour earlier browning information technology. That was the merely change I made and everyone enjoyed their meal. I will definitely adopt this recipe!
05/05/2013
This recipe is very proficient. I am not a celery person, then I left the celery out completely! I prepared it exactly every bit written minus celery and information technology is very yummy. Information technology took longer than 45 minutes for my potatoes and carrots to get tender but that just helped my stew meat to become even softer! It was yummy!
09/14/2013
Excellent! I added garlic but otherwise left the recipe unchanged. Everyone in the family loves this.
10/08/2018
I increased the amount of liquids and veggies adding, turnip, mushrooms more carrots, celery, potato and onion likewise equally the stew meat. So so skilful! My husband LOVED information technology!
12/18/2016
I made this recipe today and it was wonderful. My husband wants me to make it again thus Fri to take to a family gathering.
01/23/2015
I dont know what I did wrong? After 1 hour at that place was about no liquid in the pot cooking the meat. I had the temp on 4, but I was using my wider 3" pot with a lid. That is typically a simer with it. Subsequently 1 60 minutes, I ended up having to add 5 cups of water. The meat was plenty tender, so I merely added the vegetables at that bespeak. I simmered it most 45 more minutes, adding the lycopersicon esculentum sauce at some point. My only alter was adding an extra carrot and using a 10oz bag of shredded cabbacabbage, which equaled four cups approximately. A bit of my potatoes did disolve, along with the cabbage, just it thickened the soup anyway. I like all the vegetables in this, just for me that is a long time sitting over a pot. I virtually halved all the cooking times and it was still enough. I rated this a 4 for flavor. Its actually pretty good and much less salty tasting than other stews. Just a little also time consuming for a week night meal for me.
ten/11/2013
this was a good recipe
10/27/2014
Made information technology in pressure level cooker. Cooked meat showtime. And so added veggies at end. Whole thing done in 30 mins. Kiddos and Dad loved it.
10/01/2016
DIDN'T CHANGE A THING. GREAT TWIST ON BEEF STEW!
12/03/2012
I made this stew as submitted except I substituted a large container of mirepoix for the onion, carrot and celery. Piece of cake, rich, delicious.
11/10/2013
This was delicious! Threw in some frozen corn while I was at information technology- yum! The whole family loved information technology. :)
12/16/2016
Very good. Be careful non to add together too much tomato sauce or information technology takes over the flavor.
09/08/2018
Very skillful!! Made per directions but added a fiddling more broth & was quite pleased.
03/29/2020
Didn't change a matter. Perfect as is!
01/23/2014
It was my first time making this and it turned out great with a few pocket-sized changes. Kickoff, I used 6oz love apple paste instead of tomato sauce. Next, I added my own spices and used bong peppers & mushrooms (I didn't have any celery). Lastly, I through in the tomato paste in the pot forth with the potatoes, carrots, and everything else and cook it on medium/low temperature. Overall information technology took me about 2 and a half hours :~)
03/xxx/2018
This is probably the best beefiness stew I've made in a long time. My other half rave d nearly it and wished it made more than. Nosotros were a bit Leary of the cabbage, but I followed the recipe to the T and we were pleasantly surprised. Information technology's a keeper!

Very flavorful and hearty. Prepared in pressure cooker on loftier. Saute beef and onion, add all ingredients except potatoes and cook for 20 minutes. Release force per unit area, add potatoes and cook some other 20 minutes. Used beefiness gravy instead of beef stock and pizza sauce instead of tomato sauce to amp it upward! Served with warm bootleg ciabatta staff of life....Fantastic flavor.
08/27/2018
I doubled the recipe. Turned out keen. My wife said I could have drained more grease off on he browning the meat step. Other wise tasted great. Ill do information technology again.
x/09/2014
OMG! I just finished a huge bowl of this and would have had more than if I wasn't and so stuffed! I've been cooking for the last 4 and a half decades and have made more than my share of stews. I would have to say that this is the best darned pot of stew that I've always made! Now, I tin't stand up folks who charge per unit a recipe 5 stars and so continue to tell you the myriad changes they fabricated to the original. Submit your ain recipe if your version is so terrific. That being said, LOL, here are the minimal changes that I made. For health reasons I used reduced sodium broth and common salt free tomato sauce. I besides found a salt free onion soup mix and used a tablespoon of that instead of the cube of table salt-laden bullion. I likewise left out the celery as I didn't have any and caramelized the onions to add together a flake more depth of flavor. Other than that, I followed the recipe as written. Oh, I added a bit of flour towards the terminate every bit I am non partial to sparse stew. Even with the salt reduced to near nothing, the taste was wonderful. All the flavors melded together without whatsoever 1 ingredient outshining the others. All in all, a very easy, flavorful stew for a chilly or raw fall or wintertime night. Thank you Paul for submitting.
05/16/2019

12/30/2019

04/23/2016
just fabricated and information technology was very practiced. I added Sazon, Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb salt free and sofrito (dwelling house fabricated from scratch). I didn't add salt cause Sazon has salt.
07/06/2019
I made this stew and loved information technology. I just didn't add tomato paste considering information technology normally does take an overpowering taste. I just diced up two tomatoes and included information technology. Overall it was good and what I felt like eating on this rainy Saturday evening.
01/16/2020
So good! I followed the recipe exactly with the exception of the added common salt at the end. Equally at to the lowest degree one other reviewer noted, I was concerned I didn't take almost plenty liquid after calculation the cabbage and veggies and cooking for 30 mins. More time and even more than time with the love apple paste saved things without me adding more than liquid.
01/07/2014
Succulent! I doubled the goop and added garlic while the meat was simmering. Otherwise I kept everything else the aforementioned.
09/18/2014
Let me join the ranks of the raving reviewers. I am usually non a stew lover merely I had some acme round steak I needed to use and institute this recipe. I made it exactly every bit written (with the exception of not peeling the potatoes) and information technology was delicious. Simply the right consistency and the cabbage flavour is very subtle. I'll definitely be making it again.
01/29/2019
I concord its a little time consuming BUT well worth it. Simply changes were i extra carrot and used about four cups bone broth due to information technology simmering and cooking down. Excellent!!!
10/13/2014
The perfect stew! We do make changes according to some of the reviews only I think it would exist swell without them. We add some red wine, use beef stock and no water. Add ii cloves of pressed garlic while browning the onions, before we add the meat back in. Will be a regular dinner during fall and wintertime.
05/05/2016
I fabricated this last weekend and information technology was splendid, except I had leftover vegetables (I used my small crock pot instead of the large one). So, I am looking for another recipe to use them on this weekend.
08/29/2017
Bully recipe I make every bit is, with no onion. I make simple castilian rice to get with it. I place a spoon full of rice in a bowl then add together soup on top. Very delicious.
08/01/2013
Skilful start, but triple or quadruple -- I usually make plenty soup to freeze at least 8 quarts for hereafter apply and to give some to my kids. I also boil finely shredded onions and cabbage (almost a whole head) -- they but about dissolve and give the soup trunk. This is the base for my vegetable beef soup -- add lots of veggies - try rutabega, acorn squash, turnips. I consume vegetables in my soup that I'd never consume on their own. I leave out the potatoes as they don't freeze well, but you can put 1/2 cup barley or tiny macaroni instead.
12/18/2017
Followed the recipe exactly. Information technology was great on a cold winter day!
12/16/2015

03/26/2015
Tasty. Like shooting fish in a barrel to make. Plus information technology got my Husband to eat and actually relish veggies.
10/27/2014
Delicious. I have never cared for traditional stew, simply loved this. I only fabricated a couple of pocket-sized changes. I used turnips instead of potatoes since my husband is diabetic. I think the turnips fabricated information technology better than potatoes would have. I also used organic "improve that boullion" for boullion and broth since I was using grass fed organic beef.
09/23/2021

I threw in a package of beefy onion soup mix to give information technology extra flavor and sprinkled in some garlic common salt. The finish result was exactly equally I wanted.
12/23/2019

eleven/08/2015
Pretty good stew, although I had to make a few small additions. The stew itself is quite unproblematic, however I had to add a bit of flour in order to thicken it up. I also just added ane/2 a tin of the tomato paste, and used a small can of diced tomatoes instead of merely the full can of lycopersicon esculentum paste. The terminate consequence was pretty adept! Oh, I also added a tiny bit more beef flavor equally well!
07/06/2016
Very Adept!!!!!!
05/26/2016
I added red wine, bay leaves, fresh rosemary and thyme. Have made this for years without the cabbage! Much better with cabbage! Thanks!
12/16/2016
Exactly what I needed while I was sick. Browned the meat, carmalized the onions, scraped the brown bits off the pan and so put information technology all in the crockpot for the day.
01/12/2019
Simply the all-time ive tasted
10/xi/2016
Dearest this stew! The only things I changed, considering of personal preferences, were I exchanged celery seed for the chopped celery, added peas and more than carrots, cooked it in a crockpot all day, and added a thickener but before serving. 11/29/2016

08/thirteen/2015
I make it just like the recipe but add together a picayune extra water. I double it and freeze it. I add the potatoes later so they don't turn to mush later I freeze it. I also employ new potatoes with the skin on. I've made this several times.

02/09/2018
I fabricated information technology as directed. It was easy and succulent. Except I did use 3 carrots instead of i, and 1.five lbs babe gold potatoes cubed. I had to add a trivial more liquid when I added the veggies. I liked that I could become the meat and onions in and cooking then have my time getting veggies prepped. Meat was tender and flavour was excellent. I was happy with the dish. It was as good or improve the next day. Thank you for submission!
03/xxx/2017
Dearest this recipe! Did not take enough of the beef broth and so I added a tin of "Yep" Beef and Lentil Soup with a can of water. My husband loved it!

x/12/2018

From my go to seasonings I added Oregano, Turmeric ,Kosher table salt and Creole seasoning to give information technology a kick! Results one happy family, fifty-fifty my pickiest eater ate it all.
